Small Pharma’s Big Minds – George Tziras
Find out more about the big minds behind the team at Small Pharma through conversations with the people who work here.
George Tziras, Chief Executive Officer, sat down to share more about what excites him most working at Small Pharma – from impending results of the company’s Phase IIa clinical trial, to its inspiring team – and what good mental health means to him.
Who you are and what you do
I’m George Tziras, the CEO here at Small Pharma. I’ve been involved with the company since inception in 2015 and took over the role of CEO earlier this year. I’m focused currently on leading the company through its next stage of pivotal growth, which is preparing for later stage clinical trials with our lead candidate SPL026 and also preparing to take our pipeline candidate SPL028 into the clinic.
What excites you most about Small Pharma?
I’m a firm believer in the mission of Small Pharma, which is to address critical areas of unmet need within mental health with novel treatments. The team here at Small Pharma, while relatively small still at just over 20 people, have a really quite inspiring depth and breadth of knowledge and expertise in drug development which for me personally makes it both an exciting place to work and a privilege to lead.
What does good mental health mean to you?
A few years ago I had a good family friend that lost their battle with their illness and ultimately ended up taking their own life. It’s really their story and also the story of many others that I’ve heard since working here at Small Pharma that drives me to want to find better solutions to treating mental health.
George Tziras joined the team at Small Pharma as a director in 2015 before being appointed to the role of Chief Business Officer in 2021. He was appointed as CEO in July 2022. Prior to this George worked in investment banking and across a number of industries, including healthcare.
